What is a Mehndi?

Mehndi is both an art form and a celebration. Mehndi the art form is when Henna is applied in a design on the skin. In South Asian traditions mendhi is applied to the couple prior to their marriage. Mehndi the party is a pre-wedding celebration (traditionally all female) where all guests can have some henna applied. These days Mehndi celebrations are open to everyone and there is food and dancing in addition to henna application! You can read more about Mehndi here. Traditionally decor and outfits are in the colors of henna -oranges, golds, yellows, warm greens.
